New FreeAnalysis Web - GWT vs Dojo

Patrick

Good technologies have to rely on strong technologies.  And there are some new releases of software that automatically turn the previous version into a “so old version”. This is exactly what happened to me today when I received first screen shots of FreeAnalysis Web, GWT version (see bellow). 2 months ago, we took some risks, by stopping the heavy and costly development of FreeAnalysisWeb, Dojo version, to start a new development based on GWT.

It is just a announcement, but the feedback on "Dojo vs GWT" is interesting.

OpenLaszlo vs. GWT

Elliotte Rusty Harold

Last night I went to the New York City Java User’s Group to hear about AJAX toolkits, more specifically OpenLaszlo and GWT, both presented by their respective developers. It was an excellent idea to do these two talks on the same night since it made it really easy to compare and contrast the two approaches.

Morfik vs GWT

personalbee.com

So Morfik thinks there's nothing on the market comparable to their platform. Possibly their main threat though is whatever Google might be cooking up. The Google Web Toolkit is a similar tool to Morfik, in that it enables developers to create sophisticated Ajax applications using Java.

I don't think that Morfik is a real competitor for GWT : GWT is open source and the community is large.

Refactoring in Ruby is impossible

Screaming Penguin :

As a GWT fan, one of the things that people keep looking at Java for is the tooling. While Tor seems to be making great strides in the Ruby support, automated refactoring in untyped languages is hit and miss at best, completely impossible at worst. For my money, good refactoring tools in the hands of the average developer has been one of the great leaps forward in development over the last decade, and it is a big encouragement to have better APIs and internal code. Loss of this is not something I would like to see on a large scale. When you are talking about multi-project-multi team, losing the obvious checks against code that gets a new version of an API is a problem, even if the refactoring works as advertised in the API project. Again, you are back to writing test cases against someone else's API to see if there are obvious breakages.

GWT or J2S ? Java to JavaScript Compilation with AJAX and Spring Integration

Ben Alex : "For some time I have been interested in client-centric, web-based user interfaces. These Generation IV frameworks are characterised by their component-based, event-driven programming model, and focus on the presentation logic residing entirely on the client. Targeting a web browser in this manner typically necessitates the use of JavaScript or Flash, which in itself imposes a number of unique challenges

The purpose of this blog entry is not to critique GWT or Open Laszlo. Instead I would like to explore an open source Java to JavaScript compiler named Java2Script Pacemaker (J2S) and present an initial Spring integration
