New FreeAnalysis Web - GWT vs Dojo

Patrick

Good technologies have to rely on strong technologies.  And there are some new releases of software that automatically turn the previous version into a “so old version”. This is exactly what happened to me today when I received first screen shots of FreeAnalysis Web, GWT version (see bellow). 2 months ago, we took some risks, by stopping the heavy and costly development of FreeAnalysisWeb, Dojo version, to start a new development based on GWT.

It is just a announcement, but the feedback on "Dojo vs GWT" is interesting.

GWT vs Adobe Flex and OpenLaszlo

image Kevin Whinnery :
GWT Report Card:
  • Language Syntax: B-
  • Development Process:B+
  • Widgets/Features/Power of Toolkit: B
  • Ease of Deployment: C
  • Server-Side Data Integration: A
  • Client-Side Performance: A-
  • Platform Flexibility: B+

GWT has a lot of very cool, fascinating features that I have only begun to scratch the surface of. Generally speaking, if you like Java and your server back end is going to be Java, then GWT is almost certainly the way to go for you.

GWT versus Struts, JSF, Spring MVC

Niraj :

GWT in 2008 is going to be the real winner. About an year ago I had posted that 2007 would be the year for GWT . Well looking at the numbers I think it was. It has not overtaken struts but the relative growth has been the highest - 30,000 % WOW!.

Dojo vs GWT

Most interesting quote :

Ray cromwell : "Dojo mail is bigger and slower than GWT Mail. And GWT Mail will get faster and smaller just be recompiling with new versions."

Flex vs GWT vs Echo2

JayV

Past 2 weeks I needed to investigate the best framework to port the front-end of a Java/Swing framework to a rich web UI environment.
The contenders:

  • Adobe Flex2
  • GWT (Google Web Toolkit)
  • NextApp Echo2

GWT vs Dojo : Lombardi Blueprint, built with GWT

image Lombardi Blueprint includes around 28,500 lines of our Java code that gets compiled to JavaScript by GWT. We think that's quite a lot but the largest page is 50% smaller, at 480K, than the less functional Dojo based prototype, and it was much easier to develop.
